Entourage Edge gets rooted with ease, may get a bit more exciting

Posted in News by admin on the August 17th, 2010

It's probably in large part due to the design, but the Entourage Edge never has taken off the way Barnes & Noble's Nook or Amazon's Kindle has. But now, that all has a chance to change. The dual-screen e-reader has finally had its very own root canal, and it's probably the easiest root process we've ever seen. The crafty folks over at Android Police were able to tap into the Edge's inner workings by entering a simple code into the Debug menu, and from there, it's ……

Verizon rumors: LTE, Android 3.0 tablets, a Droid Pro, and more

Posted in News by admin on the August 10th, 2010

BGR's lined up a handful of very believable rumors for Big Red today — and if you're an Android fan, you're going to want to pay very close attention (heck, even if you're not, you should probably take a look). First up, Motorola's said to have a full-touch Android 2.2 handset in the works with global roaming capability on GSM and presumably HSPA — a first in the CDMA Android world — that apparently looks a bit like a Motorola Q (without the keyboard, of course). Interest……

Nokia 5250 set to replace the 5230, turn the ugly dial down from 10 to 6?

Posted in News by admin on the August 10th, 2010

It wasn't that long ago that T-Mobile USA launched Nokia's venerable 5230 as the Nuron, but you've got to admit — with a mug only a mother could love, Nokia owed it to itself to get cracking on a prettier replacement. On that note, we've got a shot of an alleged model 5250 today, sporting the same button configuration as the 5230; considering the gargantuan bezel, we're figuring on a smallish screen, which points to the low end of the touchscreen spectrum — right where a p……

New Kindle comes with microphone, seeds of possibility

Posted in News by admin on the August 3rd, 2010

Amazon's new Kindle has plenty of desirable features — like a month-long battery, double the storage and a more responsive screen — but some exciting new additions weren't highlighted on the press release. Diving through the official User's Guide for just such unheralded items, the Kindle World Blog discovered the unit will come with a second English dictionary, a PDF contrast adjustment and… a microphone. As you can see immediately above, that last won't be accessible out o……

Official: iPhone 4 jailbreak hits from iPhone Dev Team (updated with video)

Posted in News by admin on the August 3rd, 2010

The Library of Congress made it legal, MuscleNerd showed us it was a go, and now Comex and company have delivered the long-awaited jailbreak to the fourth rendition of iPhone. According to their new page JailbreakMe, the hack works right on the iPhone 4 (or 3GS, or 3G, or iPad, or…) itself, using via the handset's Safari browser to reportedly break into most any iOS device. The servers are getting slammed pretty badly, and only a few Engadget editors have so much as seen the page picture……

Acer's Android-powered Stream confirmed for Expansys-exclusive August 9th launch

Posted in News by admin on the July 27th, 2010

Acer's Android-powered Stream phone already got official way back in May — and we got our hands on it at Computex in June — but the company has only just now confirmed a launch date. According to Acer, the Stream will be rolling out on August 9th, and it'll be exclusive to UK-based online retailer Expansys, at least initially. As for the phone itself, you can expect a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, Android 2.1 for an OS, a 5-megapixel camera with 720p video recor……

Keepin' it real fake: Sony Style L80 mini laptop cuts the VAIO P's price down to size

Posted in News by admin on the July 27th, 2010

The Sony VAIO P: it's a lovely little, pocket-friendly machine that suffers from one glaring flaw: high price. Leave it to the boffins at Sony Style to come up with a solution for that. No, not Sony's Sony Style retailer, but rather KIRF manufacturer Sony Style, which has crafted this 1.6GHz Atom-powered mini laptop with a 1024 x 600, 8.9-inch screen and a “16GB hard disk” that is either actually an SSD or was manufactured sometime in the late '90s. It offers 1GB of memory (double t……

Apple releases iTunes 9.2.1 and iBooks 1.1.1, fixes galore promised

Posted in News by admin on the July 20th, 2010

Merely days after iTunes 9.2 hit the pipes in order to enable iPhone 4 syncing, Apple's software team has pushed out the first “minor” update since with 9.2.1. Truth be told, the list of changes, fixes and tweaks is rather lengthy for a simple point-point update, with this one allowing users to organize apps on the iOS 4 home screens into folders using iTunes, organize and sync PDF documents as books, etc. As for fixes? For starters, it'll “disable older versions of some incompatible th……

Some Droid X handsets have defective screens? (video)

Posted in News by admin on the July 20th, 2010

All's not well in Creepy Red Eye land, if reports out of several cell phone forums can be believed — a number of early Droid X adopters are documenting serious graphical or possibly electrical problems with the handset's giant screen. While we don't know how widespread the issue might be quite yet, symptoms include rapid flickering and vertical banding over all or part of the 4.3-inch LCD. Several forumites claim to have already had their phones replaced, in some cases being told th……
